The magnets not only attach to each other, they stick to the frig. That is exactly what my 1 year old grandson loves. And they are safe because all magnets are enclosed in the toy. No choking hazard.

I bought this for my 1 year old. The day we got it, my 2.5 year old played with it for at least an hour. Since then, she's only picked them up once. When I put the pieces in front of the 1 year old, he'll sort of play with them, or put them in cups and take them out again. He can't put the rubber parts on the magnet parts like my 2.5 year old. We haven't put them in the tub yet.
I like the toy and I like that it's Swiss made. Downsides are keeping the pieces together (and not all over the house like most toys with many parts). I wouldn't say it's a huge hit, but it's tough to find toys for a 1 year old. He's mostly interested in putting things in cups or bins, and taking (or dumping) them out. He'll inspect something the first time he sees it, but after that it could get forgotten. Also, he's most interested in what the older one is doing at any given moment, which could be anything. :)
