My 5-year-old daughter loves horses and all animals. She uses this horse with her Breyer petting zoo set and already has several other Breyer Stablemates items on her birthday list (her birthday is 5 months away). The only problem is keeping it out of the hands of her younger sister. Great sturdy set for young kids. I love that the set doesn't need batteries but only a child's imagination to make it work.
We gave this to our six year old neighbor girl. Her eyes lit up when she opened it. In the midst of quite a few pre-teen dolls and my little ponies, I was proud to give her something more realistic. She said, "I love horses!" She was too little to read about the surprise foal, though. I'm not sure she understood that part of it.
