As one of the top online toy retailers, we have access to unprecendented quantities of product review data. One of the key ways that we use this data is by associating our products to the specific ages and genders of the kids who are playing with them. Whereas most retailers must rely upon manufacturer suggested ages (i.e. 3+), we take actual customer usage and share it with you here so that you can choose the perfect toy or game.
But how does this help me? You can use these graphs as a general measure of it's appropriateness for a given age and gender. While this information is generally accurate, it should not be used as an absolute answer. For instance, many dinosaur toys are purchased for boys, however, that doesn't mean that it's inappropriate for a girl who happens to like dinosaurs.

 |
NOTE: The orange color in the charts above indicate ages that are LESS than the manufacturer suggested age. Please purchase at your discretion if your child is younger than 8 years of age.

Identified Special Needs Challenges:
Sensory Integration Disorder
"Our daughter has epilepsy and we are often on the look out for toys that encourage her to enjoy her brain. When having a seizure it can feel like a betrayal--her body is actually fighting her. To play a game that rewards her thinking and problem solving skills, and promotes further development of those skills, is key to her self esteem. The challenges of the Rush Hour game can be customized with simple awareness of how pieces move on the board. The play can be set up more simply than the beginner car to introduce the game and provide opportunities for success. It also helps us think from different perspectives, turning the board for a different look at the car line ups if she gets stuck. She enjoys the game and we enjoy her!"
Identified Special Needs Challenges:
Learning Disabilities
"Our 11 year is a non-reader, and is frustrated by many games. This is one he can do, and excel at, all by himself. It also has led to many conversations about the logic of the puzzle, and how the solutions can be figured out. The multiple levels of difficulty allow us to choose the right one for each person who plays. "

The format was explained to me by a 10 year old grand daughter. We both liked the game and now 6 other cousins can enjoy Rush Hour.

Great game. My son's visual therapist uses it in his sessions, so we got it for home. It has greatly improved his concentration and constructive thinking about problem solving.

challenging and fun

My 9-year-old son got it for his birthday. He had played it at a friend's house a few months earlier, and came home so excited about the game, I thought it would be a great gift. He and his friends love to take turns solving the game, and I have even taken the opportunity to play it, too. It is a great game for 2 or 3 kids to "problem-solve" together, as well. Overall, I think it is a fun game to have on hand for a new challenge every so often, or would even be good to take on a road trip!

Rush Hour Deluxe Edition

A number of years ago I determined that games would be a wonderful way to entertain students who are waiting to take their weekly piano lessons. I recently ordered Rush Hour Deluxe to replace the first Rush Hour that I purchased nearlyat ten years ago. Some of the first cars have been lost and everyone will be elated to have the whole puzzle again. Rush Hour has been the most often played game that I own. It has been enjoyed by young and old. It is often a race to see how many puzzles can be solved before time is up!!

Everyone in our household--and those who have recently visted---enjoyed this toy! With different levels of play (and step by step answers on the back of the card to guide new players or those who get stuck) we've had hours of fun our first week of owning it! We teamed up at times, one solving it and the other player reversing the action so it's set up again. We've also crafted challenges for each other to figure out. My kids are ages 7 (twin girls) and 10 (a boy) and they are choosing this game over Wii time. We look forward to purchasing expansion packs in the future as this type of toy will last us for years!
