A Bit of a Disappointment

Be prepared for a long time at the game board! This Scrabble board has twice as many squares and tiles as a conventional one. As a result, playing a game generally takes two hours or more! It also has new scoring opportunities, including double-doubles and quadruples. As lifelong scrabble enthusiasts, we have owned several games. It was a disappointment that this version goes back to paper-and-pencil scorekeeping, rather than the (easy to use) pegged trays of the older deluxe edition of regular scrabble. Also, instead of a turntable, this Super Scrabble edition has embedded ball bearings in the bottom. They don't seem to make any appreciable difference in turning the board around. For the high price, it's not as "deluxe" as it could have been!

Love the quadruple word scores. Game is scrabble so that's good. The folding board came apart right out of the box (fixable but worry some as to how long it will hold up). Another problem is the edges where the board folds have a ridge so the tiles don't lie flat....I thought the whole idea of the grids was to make the tiles secure.

The product was as I remembered. Previously having this edition and aquiring a new one that was of a similar quality was quite pleasing. Many items of years past, when ordered are not up to the former standards and quallity . . . this edition was, and I thank you Fat Brain Toy!
This was passed on as a gift, and the person receiving . . . LOVED IT!!!!!
