Erector (Meccano) History & Geography A.C. Gilbert invented the Erector set in 1913 after observing the steel work along a railroad. Erector toys have an extensive history as the construction toys of choice for boys and collectors. Today’s Erector is owned by Meccano and distributed in the states by Schylling. After all of these years, Erector kits are still produced in the form of the nostalgic construction sets, however, Erector Sets for the new generation include RC Tuning cars and Build and Play Erector Sets which are ideal for smaller children’s hands.
