An updated board and lots of fun!

Our family plays with the fast play rules, so I can't speak for those who go by the book on this one. We love this game. The loads are challenging, despite what looks like a simple board. The board itself is a wonderful update from the original Empire Builder. The grid coordinates make it easier to learn the location of different cities and the design is very appealing. It made an excellent addition to our growing collection of Empire Builder games. I would highly recommend this to anyone, whether they play by the standard rules, or the fast play.

Australians Rails

I bought this game for my step-mom. She is a huge fan of Empire Builder. We played the game on Mother's Day, and after coping with our inability to pronounce some of the city names, we were soon playing the game at full capacity. Once you get used to the locations and the loads available in each city, it is a great game to play. We will probably play this one for a while.

This is the first game I've tried in the Rails series. It is a lot of fun. I have to help my daughter quite a bit right now (she is 8), but I can see this game being played in our family for years to come. Bonus is that we learn some Australian geography while we're playing!

A Nice Change

I'm fairly new to the Empire Builder series, having played Empire Builder (US) and Nippon (Japan) before ordering Aussie Rails. Those familiar with the other versions' rules will catch right on to this one. The only difference being you start with $60M instead of $50M (which allows you to start larger loads more quickly) and the tie-breaker is different and I think adds more challenge to those "close" games. If there's a tie, you play till the first player reaches $300M and all players participate. So there's a good opportunity for some last-minute startegies paying off and upsetting the game. I think is a great change because I find when playing with experienced players, the games usually end in "aw, 2 more turns and I'd have beaten you" situations so the new tie-breaker rules make it more challenging.

This is the 2nd of the Rails series that I've played. The first was Euro Rails. I liked the map of Euro Rails better because the delivery locations are more scattered. That being said, Australian Rails is more challenging, as one needs to go from coast to coast, and also, the dots are smaller - so it takes more time to build your fortune. It's hard to draw the lines - either the board is too glossy or the crayons are too waxy. Also, the dots are smaller, so you've got to have extra good lighting. In all, Aussie Rails, is good fun. It's a great way to learn the Map of Australia, their resources and sharpen your strategic skills.
