  • With a full glass of water, it keeps drinking so long as there's water
  • Classic design with blue hat
  • Easy to follow instructions

  • Made of glass and sturdy plastic

The science behind the very thirsty bird:
Water evaporates from the felt on the bird's head.
Evaporation lowers temperature of the glass head.
The temperature decrease causes dichloromethane vapor in the head to condense.
The lower temperature and condensation cause pressure to drop in the head.
The higher vapor pressure in the warmer base pushes liquid up the bird's neck.
The liquid rises and the bird becomes top heavy and tips over.
When the bird tips over, the bottom end of neck tube rises above the liquid's surface.
A bubble of warm vapor moves up the tube through the gap, displacing liquid.
Liquid flows back to bottom bulb, pressure equalizes between top and bottom bulbs.
The weight of the liquid in bottom bulb restores the bird buddy to a vertical position.
The liquid in the bottom bulb is heated by ambient air, a temperature slightly higher than the temperature of the bird's head.

    Drinking Bird
    Posted 12/5/2014 by Kelly Wilson

My Grandmother had one of these in her house, when I saw it, I knew I needed one in my home. Absolutely love it and so do the others that have seen it. Mine is by my kitchen sink, which is also by the door used most frequently to enter or leave my house. See and smile at it daily. I "feed" my bird every morning while making my coffee.

    Drinking Bird--"Cute" is the Word
    Posted 10/15/2014 by Judith Connelly

I wouldn't use the term "play with." The bird's body is breakable and the liquid inside probably should not be spilled. It is not a "toy" -- more like a novelty. I let my grand daughter watch him drink (she was enthralled) but wouldn't let her handle it. When I was a young government worker in Washington, D.C., I often went to a novelty shop on my lunch hour and often picked out cute, unusual "character" items. I bought two "dunking" birds like these, took them home and put on top of my Mom's refrig. Everybody loved them. They "drank" a lot of water for years. They were sort of like my "pets" ! When I saw these on the fatbrain cite, I didn't hesitate to buy one. Now he is on MY refrig. wearing his Top Hat and "guzzling" away at his water cup. I love animation and it's sort of like having an old friend back after many years.
