Deal out a royal challenge that's perfect for the whole family!
Similar to old favorites like hearts, gin, spades, and rummy, Five Crowns is a riveting game of combining cards to create "books" to earn the least amount of points possible.
Here's how it works:
The deck is shuffled and dealt out to the left. Each player gets three cards for the first round. On the second round they'll get four cards, on the third round they'll get five cards, and so on.
The number of cards each player has in each round is the number-card that will be the Wild card for that round. (Got it?) Wild cards can be used to replace any card. Oh, and Jokers are Wild, too.
The goal of each round is to fill your hand with "books" known as sets or runs. A Set is made up of three or more of the same card and a Run is three or more cards in a row of the same suit.
Because Five Crowns has five Royal Families - the Stars, the Clubs, the Hearts, the Spades, and the Diamonds - It allows for a more equal chance of making a book or a run, effectively giving each player more possibilities to readjust their hand.
Good players are able to take advantage of this and win more than an average number of games.
Throughout each round, players take turns drawing a card and discarding a card for as long as it takes. Once a player has used all of their cards to make runs or sets, then the rest of the players have one more turn to improve their hand.
Any cards not used to make a "Book" are added to your score. (And remember! You want the LOWEST score!)
Keep on playing round after round, playing with four cards, then five cards, then six cards, then seven cards, and so on until finally you've made it to the king.
Keep track of your score as you play and keep the competitive flames ablaze. You may be winning, but before coveting the winner's crown, beware..."THE GAME ISN'T OVER 'TIL THE KINGS GO WILD!"
Add up your points at the end of the game - The player with the least amount of points wins!
Printed with beautiful, original art for that special "Collector" feel and designed to excite the whole family, you just might find that the eleven rounds of Five Crowns just isn't enough.
Fast-paced, ingenious new game in eleven rounds
Encourages math skills, logic, strategy, cooperative play
Sure to be an intellectual hit at your next game night
Draw cards to make Sets or Runs called "books"
"Books" negate points - Goal is to score the LEAST amount of points
Draw-a-card, discard-a-card style of play
Play lasts for 11 rounds
Tally score by adding up the cards that do NOT make up a Book
Cards are worth their face value, Wild cards are worth 20 points, Jokers are worth 50
As one of the top online toy retailers, we have access to unprecendented quantities of product review data. One of the key ways that we use this data is by associating our products to the specific ages and genders of the kids who are playing with them. Whereas most retailers must rely upon manufacturer suggested ages (i.e. 3+), we take actual customer usage and share it with you here so that you can choose the perfect toy or game.
But how does this help me? You can use these graphs as a general measure of it's appropriateness for a given age and gender. While this information is generally accurate, it should not be used as an absolute answer. For instance, many dinosaur toys are purchased for boys, however, that doesn't mean that it's inappropriate for a girl who happens to like dinosaurs.
NOTE: The orange color in the charts above indicate ages that are LESS than the manufacturer suggested age. Please purchase at your discretion if your child is younger than 8 years of age.
This is a fast, fun game our entire family likes to play. The game takes luck and skill. Everyone has a chance to win through the entire game. We play this game with kids and adults ranging in ages 8-adult.
I thought I had found a great Christmas gift for my game playing families. We all played with it and everyone wanted to order one. Had to tell them it was their present but they didn't want to wait. This is my second order. The Junior version is great for kids and still fun for adults. We use an automatic card shuffler because there are a lot of cards to shuffle. The friend that introduced me to it had made a score sheets, so I'm making score pads now for presents. Really helpful.
