A color-coded matching game that can be played at different levels.
How to Play:
The object of the game is to move all the owls from start to the nest before the sun rises. Players take turns, but work together. To start, place the sun token in the first space on the sun track and place 3 owls on the start spaces. Give 3 cards to each player. Players keep their cards face up in front of them so they can work together to strategize how to move. If a player has a sun card she must discard the sun and move the sun token 1 space up. If she has all color cards she discards any 1 color card and then moves any owl to the next open space of that color. If an owl “flies” over an owl on a space of that color on its way to the next open space, all players make a hooting sound! The game can be made more challenging by adding up to 6 owl tokens. Because Hoot Owl Hoot! is a cooperative game players play any of the owls – no one player has a single owl she is trying to get back to the nest.
What is a cooperative game?
A cooperative game is a game where all players play together against a common obstacle, not against each In a cooperative game no one feels left out and everyone has fun!
The basic game is easy enough for first time game players and the game can be made infinitely more challenging simply by adding more owl tokens into the game.
As one of the top online toy retailers, we have access to unprecendented quantities of product review data. One of the key ways that we use this data is by associating our products to the specific ages and genders of the kids who are playing with them. Whereas most retailers must rely upon manufacturer suggested ages (i.e. 3+), we take actual customer usage and share it with you here so that you can choose the perfect toy or game.
But how does this help me? You can use these graphs as a general measure of it's appropriateness for a given age and gender. While this information is generally accurate, it should not be used as an absolute answer. For instance, many dinosaur toys are purchased for boys, however, that doesn't mean that it's inappropriate for a girl who happens to like dinosaurs.
NOTE: The orange color in the charts above indicate ages that are LESS than the manufacturer suggested age. Please purchase at your discretion if your child is younger than 4 years of age.
Love the game!! Such a pleasant change to work together in a game rather than against each other. My 4-year old grandson caught on to the strategy quickly and so enjoyed finding the closest location to the nest for each owl on everyone's turn. Even if all owls weren't in the nest by the time the sun was up, we decided to get them all in the nest as quickly as possible, so no baby owls would be left out alone. A concept preschoolers truly relate to!!
